We aim to attend emergency electrical call-outs within 24 hours, prioritising properties with complete power loss, dangerous faults, or properties where vulnerable residents are affected. When you call, we ask about the nature of the fault, whether there are any visible signs of damage or burning, and whether the property has partial or complete power loss. This helps us dispatch the right engineer with the correct equipment.
Yes. Following any remedial work or new installation, we provide the appropriate certification — either an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) for new work, or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) for smaller jobs. For full property inspections, we provide an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) with coding for any observed defects (C1, C2, C3, FI) and recommendations for remedial work.
Often yes. A tripping circuit is frequently caused by a single faulty appliance, a damaged socket, or a localised fault in a junction box or ceiling rose — none of which require a full rewire. We diagnose the specific cause using circuit testing and insulation resistance testing, then repair or replace only the faulty section. Full rewiring is only recommended when testing reveals widespread deterioration, old rubber-insulated cables, or multiple faults throughout the property.
Yes. We carry out full landlord electrical safety inspections and provide the EICR certificate required by law for all rented properties. The inspection covers all fixed electrical installations including sockets, light fittings, consumer units, and any provided appliances. We code any defects found (C1 = danger present, C2 = potentially dangerous, C3 = improvement recommended) and can carry out any required remedial work to bring the property up to standard before issuing the certificate.
Common causes include: a faulty appliance drawing excessive current, moisture ingress in sockets or junction boxes (particularly in kitchens and bathrooms), damaged cable insulation allowing live and neutral to touch, an overloaded circuit with too many high-draw appliances, or a failing MCB (miniature circuit breaker) within the consumer unit itself. We test each possibility systematically rather than replacing parts at random, which is both safer and more cost-effective in the long run.
If your current consumer unit still has wire fuses rather than circuit breakers, or if it is a wooden-backed board (pre-1960s), then yes — upgrading is strongly recommended for safety. Modern consumer units with RCBOs (combined RCD and MCB) provide far better protection against electric shock and fire risk. We can assess your existing board and advise on whether a like-for-like replacement is sufficient or whether a full upgrade with RCBOs is warranted.
